The town of Udon was first founded in the 1890′s by the then Prince Prajak Silapakom. With a population of about 240,000 people it is the 4th largest city in Thailand and the largest city outside of the Bangkok metro area. Udon Thani mostly know as just “Udon” is approximately 565 km from the city of Bangkok, the Udon province covers a large land area of some 15,600 sq. km or so, with its boundary’s stretching as far north as Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lam Phu to the west, Khon Kaen to the south and as far as Sakon Nakhon in the easterly part of the province.
